The result is a showstopping specimen that combines the best of both worlds: exceptional cold tolerance paired with stunning, highly ornamental tropical foliage. From a young age, the leaves feature a rich, dark reddish-purple underside and a wine-red central midrib, complemented by a pale, waxy pseudostem that develops a soft reddish blush. As it matures, it even produces edible-looking (though seedy!) sweet-tasting fruits after a hot UK summer.

Next Steps Pot On Upon Arrival – We recommend potting up into a 2-to-3-litre pot using a rich, free-draining compost mix. Allow it to build a strong root ball before planting out into a garden border or large patio container.
