Coniogramme emeiensis

Straight from the misty slopes of Mount Emei in China, this fern brings a touch of the exotic to any shady corner. Its elegant fronds are boldly marked with dark green veins running along each leaflet, giving the whole plant a pinstriped look — like a fern dressed for a night out. Soft, arching, and endlessly graceful, it adds instant movement and texture wherever you plant it.

Despite its sophisticated style, Coniogramme emeiensis is refreshingly easy to please. In UK gardens it thrives in partial to full shade with consistently moist, humus-rich soil. Hardy to around –5 °C, it will usually overwinter outdoors in milder regions, though a good mulch will help protect crowns in colder spots. Perfect for woodland-style borders, jungle plantings, or as a star in a container display.
