Aralia vietnamensis
A Rare Jungle Giant with Enormous, Wide-Spreading Foliage
Aralia vietnamensis is one of the most extraordinary species in the Araliaceae family and a true statement plant for any collector of hardy exotics. In its native high-altitude forests, this imposing species can grow up to 12 metres tall, but in UK gardens, you can expect a more modest yet still impressive height of around 4–6 metres.
What really sets this species apart are its gigantic leaves — some up to an astonishing 2 metres long and nearly as wide, made up of large, bristly leaflets up to 25 cm each. Their size, form, and bold texture give the plant a rugged, untamed jungle presence. Its stems are armed with sharp thorns, adding another layer of interest (and respect) to this already commanding plant.
